SISI, Guwahati and Branch SISI, Silchar are equipped with general engineering workshop and chemical laboratories. SISI, Guwahati Workshop is equipped with the following machines and undertakes various jobs, development work, prototype development etc. and completes them on "No Profit, No lost basis" with highly specialized workers under the over all supervision of vision of experienced engineers.

Heat Treatment:
Hardening, Tempering, Normalizing, Annealing, Stress relieving of various ferrous metals.

Physical Testing:
The physical Testing Division of SISI, Guwahati is equipped with Universal testing Machine, hardness Testing machines, Impact testing Machines etc. Testing of various specimens is carried out as per ISI or ASME. The SISI, Guwahati issues certificate after testing. ONGC, RITES, Railways, Airport Authority of India, EIL, L&T etc. are among the regular customers of SISI testing facility. Also this Institute undertakes clay Testing for Manufacturing of Building Bricks & Physical testing of Mosaic Tiles, Glaze Tiles viz.dimension test, Wearing Layer, Resistance to wear, Wet transverse strength test, crazing etc. The testing is done on nominal charges.

Chemical Testing:
The chemical laboratory of this institute undertakes various chemical testing viz. Inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, water & Effluents, Ferrous matels & Alloys, Oil cakes & Oil seeds, Non ferrous matels & Alloys, soap and detergents, Inks, Distilled water, essential oils, Lime stone Dolomite, Lime Oil and fats, Particle board, panel board etc. The testing is done on nominal charges.
